The Americans - Season 4
"Reflections" Spot
Playing off the duality and tensions between the United States and Russia during the height of the Cold War, this piece offers an almost dreamy "what if?" story opposing nationalism and the potential for nuclear war reflected in the waters of the pool on the National Mall. Not only does the spot play with visual illusions, but the foreboding narrative plays just as well in present day as it would have 30 years ago. When we created this piece, it was never meant to have such a chilling social relevancy in today's world, but here we are.
Produced entirely in-house at FX Design, the original core concept of a static reflection came to us from our partners at mOcean, with the full 180-degree tilt + final resolve developed by FX Sr. Designer Mike Parks. I had the pleasure of Creative Directing this project with Mike, Kelly, and our internal design & VFX group – amazingly proud of our team!
